As a brand-new mom, I was faced with what I believed to be the abrupt end of my sex life after a difficult birthing experience left me with severe uterine prolapse. When I suffered further trauma at the hands of a trusted doctor, I retreated from the world in isolation. The embers of my desire to reconnect with my body, my family, and the greater community would not be rekindled until the arrival of a little gray and white kitten with an ink splotch on his nose. This soul cat–the kind that magically appears and stays only as long as he is needed–held the key to the liberation I so desperately wanted but could not have until I fully surrendered to what life was demanding of me first.
